Our Services

Mahogany Restorative Counseling is a Black-owned therapy practice that provides culturally competent, person-centered mental health services for Black folks. Within a relatable, judgment-free environment, we focus on the unique aspects of your personal and cultural background that impact your everyday life.

Black Men

Does the pressure that society places on men often feel isolating? Do you feel there are few safe outlets for you to address your concerns and frustrations as a Black man? You are navigating through a culture of competition that often diminishes your individuality, emotional health, and experiences. You were taught that masculinity is status, accomplishment, and neglecting yourself to please everyone else. You may be unsure of your feelings or may feel dissatisfied, dismissed, or uncertain. Not having everything figured out and needing support or guidance doesn’t make you any less of a man. You are more than your image and obligations to others, and you don’t have to face your personal battles alone. You should be seen, heard, and valued as an individual so that you can explore your aspirations and express who you are.

Asserting your self-love means going on your journey of self-discovery and self-esteem, allow us to aid you on that journey of discovery. Seeking help, opening yourself up, and exploring your innermost thoughts and fears are crucial to standing in your truth and reclaiming who you are. Defining yourself based on your own terms and learning to dismiss negative external messages can help you better manage times of stress and pressure.

Therapy can help you better address your needs and goals for your life.

Black Women

Black women are exposed to messages showing them that their authenticity is not welcomed or not accepted. Feeling invalidated or unappreciated by the people around you is disheartening and it can be challenging to maintain the courage to be yourself.  You are a Black woman and that is enough. You are a valuable person with goals, needs, and even trauma that you will need to discover in order to be the best of yourself.  You deserve to be appreciated, celebrated, and treated with respect for everything that you do.

You often experience discrimination and mistreatment in society and even with loved ones. You were taught to care for others before caring for yourself or told that good character is constant selflessness, sacrifice, and silence while smiling. You may have internalized hate and rejection or may feel disconnected, abused, misunderstood, or alone.

To live a life of self-love and happiness, you need confidence, validation, and support. Prioritizing your fulfillment and unlearning habits that inhibit your self-worth and are necessary for reaching self-actualization and personal growth. Facing your trauma in order to heal and allowing your feelings to surface can help you better cope with your past and future experiences.

Though therapy will feel foreign, you will find new hope to build your future.

Black Couples

Are you and your partner dealing with differences in opinions, goals, life experiences, or upbringing? Black couples’ identities and expectations of each other are influenced by the limited and oftentimes negative portrayal of Black relationships in society. Your Black love deserves a gentle and inclusive space where it can grow organically so that you and your partner can learn without fear or outside distractions.

You are working through parenting, financial stress, communication barriers, or health issues. There are not enough examples of loving, stable, and collaborative relationships around you.

Your Black love should be a healthy space where you and your partner can express your dreams, frustrations, or fears. Understanding your partner’s views, recognizing your own sensitivities, and working as a team to resolve your conflicts will contribute to the happiness and overall health of your relationship. Learning to tackle challenges in your partnership will help you walk in your journey together.

Joint therapy is a bridge to a safe and forgiving place where you and your partner can identify your challenges and develop the tools to help your union thrive.

What To Expect

Let's Chat

Once you are booked for a consultation, we will have a 15-minute conversation where we get to know each other and decide if we can build a partnership that helps you obtain your goals.  If you decide to move forward, you can schedule your first session and complete our new client paperwork.

Let’s get into it

At your first session, you will complete an assessment that describes who you are and your story. We will also discuss how we can ensure that we are on the same page with your healing journey.

Let’s Work

As we work through our sessions together, we will talk about your needs, develop tailored goals, and check in regularly.  You will have new skills to help you manage your stressors while uncovering any challenges and celebrating your triumphs. We will guide you towards the happier version of yourself.

Let’s Reflect

Once we determine that your therapeutic journey together is complete, we will recap our sessions and discuss your progress. We will plan how you can continue this new journey on your own. The new tools and mindset that you have learned during our time together will help you as you continue in your new path.
